Love keeps us strong

Dana lifted the sculpture from its box and read the message. She smiled and wiped a tear that lay on her cheek. It was her favorite Christmas gift, but it was a bittersweet day for her.
Jay was in far off Iraq. He had hoped his Marine unit would make it home by Christmas, but it didn’t happen. Somehow, he had made sure his gift arrived, even if he couldn’t.
A baby’s cry brought Dana to her feet. She picked up their beautiful new daughter. They had named her Faith, “because that’s what she has given us,” said Jay. It was another moment without him at her side. He was thousands of miles away on the day Faith was born, but his love and his spirit were right there with her and their new baby.
“You’re a little angel,” Dana said to the smiling cherubic face. “Daddy’s little angel and your love will keep him safe and bring him home soon.” Faith gurgled an approving ‘Goo’ to Dana’s delight.
After Faith was fed and sleeping peacefully, Dana returned to the note that had come with her gift.
Dearest Dana…
When I found out we were being deployed, it was very hard for both of us, I know. It meant I would miss the birth of Faith, but I was hopeful I would be with both of you for the Holidays. Now we know that was not to be.
You have been so brave through all of this. I cannot put into words how proud of you I am. I know we have a Guardian Angel watching over us. There have been so many near misses over here, but each time, I feel the strength of our love and the watchful eye of our special angel.
When I saw this beautiful angel figurine, I knew it was meant for us. It’s called ‘Love’ and I was enthralled by the way the wings seemed to intertwine to protect each other – just the way our own love supports us, even when we’re so far apart. I hope you find comfort in the message, as I did.
Give our little girl and big kiss and remind her how much I love both of you.

For the umpteenth time, Dana finished Jay’s letter. Then she picked up the card that came with her new Eden’s Angels sculpture and read it again:

Those who radiate emotions of true love are sure to attract an equal abundance of love into their life.

The phone rang and the voice Dana heard was Jay’s. A little late, but he was on his way home – if only for a brief time, he would soon be with them.
Dana held the Angel to her heart and whispered, “Thank you. Thank you for keeping him in Your care.”
