Angel Stories
Angels of the Animals

Dear Eden's Angels,

I found your collection at a local shop recently and immediately purchased the original 13 in the set for my daughter.   They are just beautiful!

In our lifetime, there are indeed many nameless, faceless angels who walk amongst us.   They are called "Animal Rescuers."  They are widely networked all across the country and serve a common purpose.  They are the nameless, faceless angels of neglected, abandoned and abused animals.

I'd love to see you do a series on both rescuers and the animals they rescue with perhaps a portion of the sales going to each rescue who submits stories & photo's that you might choose to portray.

For example:

I recently rescued a registered 25 year old Tennessee Walking horse mare (on 8/8/07) named Ebony's Prissy Lady who was severely emaciated (500-600 pounds underweight) and very near death.  Through the generosity of many other animal lovers, funds were donated towards Lady's feed/proper vetting & with lots of TLC, she is now well on her way to making a full recovery or...

...let me tell you about Sadie, a 6 year old purebred German Shepherd dog that was picked up as a stray by local law enforcement and turned in to a local kill shelter in Dec 05.   Sadie weighed a mere 46 pounds when pulled by this rescue.   Upon receiving initial veterinary care, it was discovered that Sadie had a severe case of Perianal Fistula (PF for short).   Although PF cannot be cured, with proper diet, supplements and lots of TLC,  Sadie's PF is in check and she now weighs 67 pounds or...

there's the story of Bay Sienna Bay, a registered Arabian mare (Bask lines) who was purchased by this rescue sight unseen on the recommendation of my farrier to get her out of a neglect situation.  Sienna was several hundred pounds underweight and suffered from a horrible abscess in one hoof.   With proper veterinary, ferrier care and lots of TLC, she now serves as a therapy horse for disabled children...

...then there's Kaite', a GSD/northern breed mix who was turned into a Pit bull rescue in another state at the young age of 4 months old.  Kaite' lacked any training and was totally human unsocial.  Taken in by this rescue (familiar with human shy, feral yet non aggressive animals) in Jan 07,  Kaite' is now leash trained, crate trained, housetrained and serves as an ambassador animal for special needs children...

....there's also the story of "Lotsaspots" (formerly known as "Troubles" although I don't know why, he's no trouble at all!)   Troubles aka Lotsaspots is a 6 year old Appaloosa/Paint gelding who rode flawlessly in the local 06 Christmas parade.  En route home,  "Spots' fell in the trailer, one of his rear hooves went through the siding and he sustained a severe injury to the coronary band.  The owner tried to treat the injury (unsuccessfully)  for a few weeks but was facing major surgery and subsequent loss of income, knew he would be both physically/financially unable to care for the horse so elected to turn Spots over to this rescue.  After receiving months of intense veterinary/farrier care and lots of TLC, Spots has gained approximately 400 pounds, his injury has completely healed and he is now 100% sound.

For many more stories on these wonderful earthly angels and animals, feel free to contact me.  I'll be glad to put you in touch and please remember all the earthly angels who walk among us by supporting  the local rescue or sanctuary of your choice.

Sincerely,

Debra Jarrell
